About This Game STARDROP is a single-player first-person video game where you take on the role of a Salvage & Rescue Operative named Aryn Vance. With her partner, John Kindley, at her side, the two embark on a journey full of mystery and suspense with some laughs along the way. STARDROP tells a genuine heart-felt story about a long lost starship, its crew and one individual in particular.STARDROP presents its narrative through traditional cut scenes and in-game cinematic story telling as you play. The main campaign is where the heart of the game's narrative lies but you will also be able to experience the universe of STARDROP through its side missions.Exploration lies at the game's core but so does accessibility. While the game offers puzzles and asks the player to figure out what to do or where to go next, the flow of information within the game will always guide you. Objectives are always made clear and designed with logic in mind. However, those who venture off the beaten path will find that there are more than enough secrets to be discovered.Throughout the game the player will be able to interact with various types of interfaces such as control panels, elevators and security systems as well as other various interactive objects such as computer interfaces where you can read emails, listen to audio logs and more.Your All-Purpose-Design (APD) space suit is equipped with a set of tools that you will need in order to succeed. The suit comes with a built-in flashlight. The object scanner enables you to identify objects of interest that you can interact with and it's also capable of zero gravity mobility under certain circumstances.The DataPad is an essential tool. It enables you to view your current objective, read audio and text logs that you've collected and it also comes with a built-in mini-map.Our main focus will always be on the game's story but we strife to deliver breathtaking visuals where possible. It lasts about 5 hours, or more if you're thorough enough and enjoy hidden items and such. The voice acting is enjoyable, the writing OK, the story is compelling, and the graphics are decent, along with the animation.If you're of the gaming mind where you expect a blend of Dead Space and System Shock 2, this is nowhere near that kind of game, and you'll be disappointed.But then again, perhaps STARDROP needs some more grit in it to make it feel more complete?. Joure, I really enjoyed playing your game. You picked some simple and straight forward design elements and stuck with them, which I appreciate. The writing and voice acting were both very enjoyable, and more human and less overproduced which was a really nice change of pace. Cheers!Recommended for anyone who would like a relaxing mystery in a sci-fi setting to roll through. Took me a little over five hours, which was the perfect length.. Honestly, it took me at least half a dozen tries to finish this game. I enjoy science fiction in space and I particular like sci-fi mystery adventures, but a few things kept me from playing through this one in one session:- The slow pace and serene atmosphere is comforting, but also made me sleepy several times. Maybe that says more about my age than about the game, but for some reason the gameplay could not keep me engaged between the story bits.- I did not like the androids. The game has the feeling of a walking simulator and that is what I wanted (for anyone sensing a contradiction to the point above, please read on), what I do personally not enjoy is playing horror games. And while the androids were relatively harmless and easy to avoid, it happened at least twice that I was surprised by one of them when turning around and almost jumped out of my seat. For some people this is exciting, but not for me.- The controls were bonkers. I played with a gamepad and had to switch to mouse+keyboard for the camera section, because the gamepad just plain refused to work. In other sections (in space), the key bindings (up and down) were confusing. If there is one thing on the technical front I would love to see improved in a (potential) sequel, it is the controls.- While I loved the atmosphere, I found many of the rooms on board of the ships to be confusingly empty. The clean sci fi aesthetics make sense, sure, but many of the rooms were just "there" and many of the interactable items were just the same boring clutter. I never got the sense of learning much about the crew aside from the logs. I'd rather have more interesting clutter than android sections, but maybe that's just me. ;-)- I encountered one particularly nasty game-breaking bug today (11 Apr 2019), which lead me to having to restart chapter 4. When using the large elevator from Delta Labs to the DS, it is possible to move out of the elevator before the fade to black. In that case, the game drops me outside of the elevator room in the DS level, which is space, leading me to falling out of the world. Since the game checkpoints the level switch, reloading brings me back to the same point, falling out of the world in space. It might be a good idea to add a player character position reset to that level switch to avoid that (or deny the possibility of exiting the elevator). Regardless, having to replay 20 minutes of the final chapter was not fun.So, why do I still recommend it?First of all, I admire the effort by the developer. I did not follow all of the blog posts and while I bought the game at an early stage, I waited until it was released before I really sat down to play it. I am a software engineer myself and while not for games, I do appreciate and respect the love the developer has shown for his creation. And this I do want to support.Secondly, I did indeed enjoy the story once it got going. Some of the voice acting was shaky and the characters were growing attached to each other a bit too fast for my liking (without spoilering anything, the player character and the "ghost in the machine" talking about their relationships after 5 minutes of knowing each other was a bit immersion-breaking for me). Nevertheless, the story itself was nice and I do indeed enjoy the almost original idea of sacrifizing characters for drama. It is not a Hollywood movie plot and I do approve of that.I am sorry for writing this much and most of it appearing to be negative. Quantity in this instance does not equal quality, i.e. the positive stuff for my outweighed the negatives in the end. If I were giving this a score, I would give a 7 out of 10. I would love to see a sequel and a new adventure with Aryn and John.. Stardrop is relaxing eye candy with a great soundtrack, but not much else.You'll get a slow content walk driven by hit-or-miss writing and mediocre voice acting. The dialogue is sappy and the characters are hammy, and there's even an inspirational message written by the game's creator himself (though it may well have been ghost written by Tommy Wiseau).Gameplay is an endless series of keycode hunts with the occasional no-stakes stealth minigame. It's not really a game, and it's not fun.What Stardrop really brings to the table is ATMOSPHERE, and loads of it. Stardrop is great to look at, and the soundtrack perfectly captures the wonder, tranquility, and majesty of space. This game is definitely about the journey, and not the destination. The story is forgettable, but there are plenty of touches and nods that pay homage to its inspirations.If you're a sci-fi nut and you've ever wanted to lead the away team in an episode of Star Trek TNG centered around exploring a derelict space vessel, check out Stardrop... Just don't expect a huge payoff. All things considered, I enjoyed it..
